What is Reiki?
Reiki is one of the most popular methods of providing healing energy to people, animals, and even plants. Pronounced Ray - kee, it is actually 2 Japanese words: Rei loosely translated to mean spiritual wisdom and Ki meaning life energy or chi. Taught in modern times by Dr. Mikao Usui, it is an ancient method of natural healing that is transmitted through specific hand positions. Relaxed, nurtured, floaty, peaceful… these are just a few of the words people use to describe how Reiki makes them feel.
How does it work?
Healing energy is everywhere, it is abundantly, continuously offered by the universe. Reiki is one way to tap into that energy and direct it. Some studies say that Reiki can speed up the body’s natural ability to heal by 4 times. Reiki flows through the healer to the recipient with the intention of cleansing toxins from the chakras and aura to promote well being and health. If an engine is clogged with debris, it doesn’t function well and the gears can get jammed. In the same way if a person’s energy system has blockages, the natural circulation of energy is impaired.
In a typical Reiki session, the client lies on a massage table and relaxes as the Reiki practitioner places his or her hands on the person from head to toe and sends the healing energy. Trusting and allowing the Reiki to go where it is needed is essential to every session - it “knows” best what the person needs at that particular time. A person may think physical healing in is order but in truth it is an emotional issue. Of course, Reiki is never a substitute for medical care, but it sure can be compliment it.
Can anyone learn Reiki?
Absolutely! We all have the ability to draw in universal healing energy and Reiki is one way to tap into that energy. Even though it is very easy to learn and practice, one thing that sets Reiki apart is the “attunement” aspect. An attunement is when a trained Reiki Master passes on the ability to heal with Reiki to the student.
